在成为Elanso “VIP译员”之前，需要先通过专家评审。 译员将会收到一份《翻译能力测试题》，Elanso的专家评审将会根据《Elanso VIP译员考核体系》来对译员翻译能力进行评估。
专家评审将根据以下的《Elanso VIP译员考核体系》来评定译员的翻译水平，一方面是要强化译员的品质意识、将空泛的各派翻译标准极具操作性地落到实处，另一方面是有助于甄别翻译质量的高低、明智地选择优秀译员成为VIP译员。
此《Elanso VIP译员考核体系》，集合了多位专家评审的自身学习体会和工作经验，全面参照英国皇家特许语言学家学会（Chartered Institute of Linguists）和澳大利亚翻译资格认可局（National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters）的笔译评价标准以及中华人民共和国国家标准《翻译服务规范第1部分：笔译》。
《Elanso VIP译员考核体系》提出“内容完整”、“信息准确”、 “表达恰当”、“语言品质”、“遵从惯例”、“风格贴近”、“技术细节”以及“整体效果”等八个方面的质量指标，基本涵盖了对翻译的所有常见要求。
一、 内容完整Completeness
是否提交完整的译文、提交时间是否不超出约定期限，这是翻译质量的默认衡量标准。

二、 信息准确Accuracy
提交的译文是否完全准确地传达了原文信息，没有添加、删减、扭曲、错乱，这是翻译质量的首要衡量标准。
1. 信息添加addition
原文：The UN released the document in The Hague and in more than 100 nations’ capitals, including Beijing.
译文：这份报告是联合国对包括北京在内的一百多个国家的首都进行调查后，在海牙公布的。
n 原文并未提及联合国对各国首都进行了调查，显然这是译者没有深究原文意思，先入为主地胡编乱造的。实际上，原文把“The Hague”和“capitals”并列区别开来，一是因为联合国的这份文件很可能是在海牙（国际法院所在地）首发的，二是因为海牙并非荷兰的首都，无法纳入“capitals”。
改译：联合国在海牙和包括北京在内的一百多个国家的首都发布了该报告。
2. 信息删减omission
原文：The Engineer shall be at liberty to object to and require the Contractor to remove forthwith from the Works any person employed by the Contractor in or about the execution or maintenance of the Works who, in the opinion of the Engineer, misconducts himself or is incompetent or negligent in the proper performance of his duties or whose employment is otherwise considered by the Engineer to be undesirable and such person shall not be again employed upon the Works without the written permission of the Engineer.
译文：工程师有权要求承包商立即解雇其雇用来执行合同的人员，这些人员在工程师看来未履行职责或不称职。被解雇的人员未经工程师的书面同意，不得再被雇用。
n 原文中的“any person employed by the Contractor in or about the execution or maintenance of the Works”被笼统地译为“执行合同的人员”，减损了概念的内涵，扩大了概念的外延（不但包括工程施工、执行和维护人员，而且可能包括行政、后勤等人员）。
n 此外，“misconducts himself”和“whose employment is otherwise considered by the Engineer to be undesirable”在译文中也没有得到体现。
n 上述漏译改变了原文条款的约束对象和范围。
改译：工程师有权反对承包商雇佣来参与工程建设或从事工程施工或维护相关工作的任何人员，并要求承包商立即将他们从工程中解雇，只要工程师认为其行为不轨、或不能或疏于恰当地履行职责、或工程师因其他原因认为其雇用欠妥。未经工程师书面同意，此种人员不得再受雇于该工程。
原文：“Site” means the land the other places on, under, or through which the Permanent Works or Temporary Works designed by the Engineer are to be executed.
译文：“现场”指工程师设计的永久性或临时性工程所需的土地及其他场地。
n 原文的on, under, in or through仅仅以“所需”笼统表示很不妥当，模糊了工程与现场的各种关系，将来可能造成争端。
改译：“现场”指建造工程师设计的永久或临时工程所需的土地和其他场所，不管工程是建造于该等场地之上、之下、之内还是经过该场地。
原文：Upon successful completion of the tests the Purchaser shall sign a Plant Acceptance Certificate evidencing such completion and listing any agreed Deficiencies to be corrected by CAE within such period as may be agreed with the Purchaser.
译文：如果这些试验均获成功，买方须在工厂验收合格证上签字，证明已完成这些试验，并注明双方一致认为并已被CAE校正的缺陷。
n 将完成纠正缺陷的时限漏译，可能造成的纠纷是不言而喻的。
改译：一旦顺利完成这些测试，买方须签署一份工厂验收证，证明测试已经完成，并列出双方共同认定的所有缺陷，由CAE在与买方可能商定的期限内加以纠正。
原文：The Contractor shall be responsible for the true and proper setting-out of the Works in relation to original points, lines and levels of reference given by the Engineer in writing and for the correctness, subject as above mentioned, of the position, levels, dimensions and alignment of all parts of the Works and for the provision of all necessary instruments, appliances and labor in connection therewith.
译文：承包人负责根据工程师的书面指示正确地开始工程，保证工程位置、面积、水平面及各部分组合的质量，提供工程所需工具、设备和劳力。
n 或许由于译者认为“original points, lines and levels of reference”和下文的“position, levels, dimensions and alignment”意思重合，而“subject as above mentioned”和“in connection therewith”意思不好把握且似乎可有可无，因此三个部分都被漏译了，造成概念外延和行为任意性的扩大。
改译：承包商应负责按工程师书面提交的原始基准点、基准线和参照标高如实准确地对工程进行放线，并在符合上述要求的情况下，负责校正工程各部分的位置、标高、尺寸和排列，同时提供一切有关的必要仪器、装置和劳力。
3. 信息偏差distortion
原文：Upon successful completion of the tests the Purchaser shall sign a Plant Acceptance Certificate evidencing such completion and listing any agreed Deficiencies to be corrected by CAE within such period as may be agreed with the Purchaser.
译文：如果这些试验均获成功，买方须在工厂验收合格证上签字，证明已完成这些试验，并注明双方一致认为并已被CAE校正的缺陷。
n 译者将“Deficiencies to be corrected”误解为“Deficiencies corrected”，造成了时间上的偏差。实际上原文的本意是在完成工厂验收后，设备如仍有缺陷，双方可协议在规定期限内予以纠正，但应在验收证上注明。
改译：一旦顺利完成这些测试，买方须签署一份工厂验收证，证明测试已经完成，并列出双方共同认定的所有缺陷，由CAE在与买方可能商定的期限内加以纠正。
原文：As an artistic event, a stimulus to the creative and performing arts in Australia, the Festival has introduced many world-famous artists to millions of Australians.
译文：作为一种艺术活动，艺术节促进了澳大利亚艺术的开创与形成，它将世界许多的知名艺术家介绍给了广大的澳大利亚人民。
n “the creative and performing arts”指“创意艺术和表演艺术”，并非“艺术的开创与形成”。
改译：（阿德莱德）艺术节是一件艺术盛事，对澳大利亚的创意艺术和表演艺术来说是一种激励，它让数百万澳大利亚人认识了许多世界闻名的艺术家。
4. 信息错乱confusion
原文：The “excepted risks” are war, hostilities, civil war, or unless solely restricted to employees of Contractor or of his subcontractors and arising from the conduct of the Works, riot, commotion or disorder.
译文：“意外风险”包括战争、敌对状态、内战，或在工程进行中，由承包商的雇员、分包人制造的动乱、混乱。
n 本句话的表语是由war、hostilities、civil war以及（有成因arising from…和影响范围solely restricted to…限定的）riot、commotion、和disorder。
n 译者由于未弄清结构，导致译文正好与原文背道而驰。
改译：“除外风险”包括战争、敌对状态、内战，以及非由施工引起、且不仅影响承包商或其分包商所雇员工的暴动、骚乱和混乱。
原文：A desire to throw over reality a light that never was might give way abruptly to the desire on the part of what we might consider a novelist-scientist to record exactly and concretely the structure and texture of a flower.
译文：这是一种照亮现实的欲望，此欲望从来就不会唐突的取代后面的那种欲望，后者是我们可以将其部分的理解为一个兼任小说家和科学家的人想要去准确并具体的记录下一朵花的结构和文理的那种意义上的欲望。
n 本翻译最大的错误在于没能理清“that never was”（修饰“a light”）和“might give way abruptly to the desire”（担当主句谓语）的修饰和归属关系，胡乱将其拼凑在一起，进行穿凿附会，得出了与本意完全相反的翻译。实际上，译员如果愿意对上文【Thus, one impulse often surrendered to a fresher one and, unfortunately, instead of exacting a compromise, simply disappeared.（因此，一种冲动往往让位于另一种新产生的冲动，而且不幸的是，两种冲动间并不能取得某种折衷，而是索性使原来的冲动消失殆尽。）】稍加照应，是可以避免这样的错乱的。
n 穿凿附会的还有“on the part of what we might consider a novelist-scientist”。“what”引导的名词性从句相当于“someone whom we might consider a novelist-scientist”，其中关系代词“whom”在关系从句中做“consider”的宾语。
改译：以一种前所未有的方式解构现实的欲望，突然之间可能被另一种准确具体记载花草结构和纹理的欲望所取代，而这种欲望可能被认为是科普作家所特有的。
三、 表达恰当Appropriacy (renders text appropriately)
提交的译文是否能够让读者获得原文所提供的信息，词语是否便于读者理解、语法是否不构成阅读羁绊、逻辑是否正确引导读者，这是翻译质量的基本衡量标准。
1. 词语达意expressiveness
原文：Chou was a quiet and thoughtful man, even a little shy as he welcomed his visitors, urged them to be seated and to tell how he could help them.
译文：周恩来举止优雅，待人体贴，在招呼他们坐下，询问有何见教的时候，甚至还有些腼腆。
n 这里没有充分挖掘出关键词语“urge”所具有的“急切地鼓励”这一内涵，另外，“询问有何见教”也不足以表达“urged them to tell how he could help them”所体现的热情。再有就是“quiet”与“优雅”似乎还是有点差别。
改译：周恩来举止沉稳，待人体贴，在热情招呼他们就座、表示随时乐意效劳的时候，甚至还有些腼腆。
原文：A desire to throw over reality a light that never was might give way abruptly to the desire on the part of what we might consider a novelist-scientist to record exactly and concretely the structure and texture of a flower.
译文：这是一种照亮现实的欲望，此欲望从来就不会唐突的取代后面的那种欲望，后者是我们可以将其部分的理解为一个兼任小说家和科学家的人想要去准确并具体的记录下一朵花的结构和文理的那种意义上的欲望。
n “throw over reality a light that never was”是成语“throw (a) light on/over”的扩展。“on the part of”是“regarding or with respect to”之意。译者断章取义，仅将单独字词简单组合起来，得出的翻译不能达意。
改译：以一种前所未有的方式解构现实的欲望，突然之间可能被另一种准确具体记载花草结构和纹理的欲望所取代，而这种欲望可能被认为是科普作家所特有的。

n 另外一个小问题是，“sexism”被机械地翻译成“性别主义”，不够“性别歧视”达意。
改译：这些问题具有政治色彩，因为不可避免的是，关于这些问题的辩论与其说是本着中立精神对抽象事物进行的探索，不如说是学术影响力的较量。这场较量将使目前才开始大批进入学术界的女性学者中许多人的职业生涯和职业前景岌岌可危，同时她们为人文理解作出显著贡献的机会也难以预料，而这样的贡献可能对消除社会上的性别歧视带来重大影响。
2. 语法正确grammar
原文：Does there, I wonder, exist a being who has read all, or approximately all, that the person of average culture is supposed to have read, and that not to have read is a social sin?
译文：我在想，是否有人读完了一个有中等教养的人被认为应该读的所有书籍或几乎所有书籍？没有读完这些书籍是否是一种社会犯罪？
n 译者的问题在于将修饰“all”的后一个关系从句“that not to have read is a social sin”划归为“I wonder”的宾语从句。
改译：我在想，要读完了一个中等教养的人应当读完、不读完就是一种社会罪过的所有书籍，或几乎所有这样的书籍，到底有没有人能够做到？
3. 逻辑清晰logic
原文：These new observational capabilities would result in simply a mass of details were it not for the fact that theoretical understanding has reached the stage at which it is becoming possible to indicate the kind of measurements required for reliable weather forecasting.
n
译文：理论上的认识已达到了这样的阶段——现在已能指出需要哪种测量方式才能可靠地预报天气，如果做不到这一点，那么上述这些新的观察能力只不过提供了一大堆细节而已。
原文：Once intimidated by arguments that their children would feel more at home in bilingual classes，and that they might lose their heritage in regular classes，these women have since given voice，loudly and persuasively，to what they know from experience that unless they are fluent in the language of their adopted country，their children will never attend college or land any but the most menial of jobs.

n 这是一个在互联网上被当作翻译典范进行传播的句子，但最后部分的逻辑整理出现了混乱。原文“but the most menial of jobs”是仅从有待land的“any”中排除，而非从“attend college”中排除。
改译：这几名妇女曾经被这样的论调搞得惶恐不安：觉得孩子们在双语课堂里会感到更加自在，而在正规班级则可能丧失传统文化。但之后她们一直在大声疾呼，现身说法，宣扬孩子们只有精通所移居国家的语言，才有可能念上大学和找到稍微体面一点的工作。
原文：Inevitably, trade-offs are made——such as a lowering of mandated auto pollution standards for the immediate future against a raising of overall air quality requirements——and the degree to which long-term environmental considerations are taken into account usually depends upon the ability of environmental groups to bring their pressure to bear in the hearings.
译文：各方相互妥协是不可避免的——比如不全面实行气体质量的检测标准，放宽为只对机动车强制实行污染检测标准。对环保长期考虑的力度通常取决于各环保组织在听证会上施加的可承受压力的大小。
n 原译文破折号后面的半句话与原文相去甚远，暂且不说严重的信息错乱，光看译文似乎“不全面实行……”和“放宽……”都是妥协的做法。而实际上，两个破折号之间“against”两边是要折衷的两个方面。
改译：因此，作出妥协是不可避免的，比如，在近期内降低法定的汽车污染标准，以换取总体空气质量要求的提高。另外，长远的环保因素能够得到多大程度的重视，往往取决于各环保团体在听证会上施加压力的能力。
四、 语言品质Quality
提交的译文是否有助于读者完全理解原文所有信息，译文读者阅读时，能否获得与原文读者相当的阅读轻松性（行文流畅）、提示性（重点突出）和愉悦性（表达手法丰富），这是翻译质量的必要衡量标准。
1. 行文流畅fluency：表达的流畅性也就是衔接和连贯的问题，一般应由已知信息引导出未知信息。
原文：We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that this nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
译文：我们在这场战争中的一个伟大战场上集会。烈士们为使这个国家能够生存下去而献出了自己的生命，我们在此集会是为了把这个战争的一部分奉献给他们作为最后安息之所。我们这样做是完全应该而且非常恰当的。
n 原文以“we（我们）”作为已知信息，引导出不同的新的信息。译文没有遵守这一规律，读起来就不顺，因为这一段都是在讲“我们”如何如何，中间突然插进一个“烈士们”，有些突兀。
改译：我们在这场战争的一个伟大战场上集会，是为了把战场的一角奉献给那些为捍卫国家生存而在这里英勇献身的烈士，作为他们的永久安息之地。我们这样做是完全应当的，是义不容辞的。

n 从句和分词“issued by the Company…in the capital of the Company (“Share(s)”)”一律进行前置修饰，过份突显了其中包含的枝节信息，导致动宾结构“知会……认股权证之登记持有人”的动词和宾语之间相隔90多字，令人不忍卒读。

2. 重点突出emphasis
原文：With the liberalization of world trade, economic competition now means international as well as domestic competition.
译文：随着世界贸易的自由化，经济竞争如今既指国际也指国内。
n 根据英语短语“as well as”的一般用法特点和上下文，这里的语意重心在其前面的内容，而汉语的表述正好相反，往往将重点放在后面，因此翻译成汉语时应变动语序。
改译：随着世界贸易的自由化，经济竞争如今不仅指国内竞争，也指国际范围的竞争。
原文：The value is affected by intangibles and other ‘soft’ assets like company reputation and quality of management which, under the current reporting framework, are not recorded on the balance sheet or measured in any consistent fashion, but which do affect the market price.
译文：价值受到无形及其它“软性”资产的影响，如目前申报格式上，未记录在平衡表或未以一致形式衡量，但会影响市价的公司信誉及管理质量。
n 这也是一个重点不够突出的例子。提到“其他‘软性’资产”后，理应迅速举例说明何为“软性”资产。否则，概念都没有交代完，就说它们如何如何，有点主次不分。
改译：投资价值受无形资产及其它“软性”资产的影响，如公司商誉及管理水平。根据现行的申报制度，这类资产并不记录在资产负债表上，也没有一贯的方式对其进行衡量，但它们确实会影响市价。
3. 手法丰富devices

原文：When Hetty read Arthur’s letter she gave way to despair. Then, by one of those conclusive, motionless actions by which the wretched leap from temporary sorrow to life-long misery, she determined to marry Adam.
译文：海蒂读过阿瑟的信后陷入绝望之中。后来，她采取了一个不幸者常常采用的那种快刀斩乱麻的行动:嫁给了亚当，从而陷入了终身的痛苦，为的不过是跳出那一时的悲伤。
n 本句的难点在于如何处理修饰“actions”的关系从句“by which the wretched leap from temporary sorrow to life-long misery”。显然主人公采取她的action时，是没有意识到“life-long misery”的结局的。因此，将关系从句放在“行动”之前，不但结构上累赘，逻辑上也不合理。
n 鉴于原文的文学性，译文需要体现类似的文采。但由于源语与目标语文化的不同，文采再现的时候，可以采用不同的意象，但文采效果要基本一致。
改译：读完阿瑟的信，海蒂深感绝望。后来，她麻木地作出了断，决定嫁给亚当。殊不知，这种决断虽能让不幸者迅速摆脱一时悲伤，却会使他们陷入一生不幸。（殊不知，这种决断是不幸者饮鸩止渴的做法：摆脱了一时悲伤，却陷入了一生不幸。）

n “to correct…”中的两个by短语是说明采取何种方式的，如能总提一下，就便于分述。

n 上述译法把句子各部分之间的关系较好地体现出来了，但存在的问题是，中文的问句往往要通过一个疑问语气词来终结，而这个“吗”字与问句的起始部分相距太远，造成不自然。
改译：因此，难道我们不应当正视自己的责任，勇敢地采取积极行动吗？我们应当结束外国占领，撤退外国军队，开辟和平解决争端的道路，通过自由选举建立中央政府，并为历史上长期遭受苦难的不幸的朝鲜人民恢复完全的独立、统一和主权。
改译：因此，为了结束外国占领，撤退外国军队，开辟和平解决的道路，通过自由选举建立中央政府，并为历史上长期遭受苦难的不幸朝鲜人民恢复完全的独立、统一与主权，为了这一切，我们还不应该正视我们的责任并勇敢地采取行动吗？
五、 遵从惯例Idiomaticity
提交的译文是否符合译入语和相关行业的规范、是否消除了翻译腔，这也是翻译质量的必要衡量标准。
1. 术语标准terminology
原文：The High-Density Mapping Catheter is designed to facilitate electrophysicologi- cal mapping of the heart. It is deployed in a heart chamber through an 8F guiding sheath, such as the Guiding Sheath. This deflectable catheter consists of multiple 3F spines on its distal tip, each spine having multiple platinum electrodes that are used for stimulation and recording. Pushing forward on the catheter thumbknob deflects the tip; pulling back on the thumbknob straightens the tip. This device includes an irrigation lumen for connection to a source of continuous drip anticoagulant fluid.

n “Mapping”的意思是将测量值映射出来，因而不是一般的“探测”，医学上翻译成“标测”；“spine”是细如针状的小管，翻译成“脊面”大相径庭，而且也与直径分级“3F”毫不相干；“thumbknob”应该是比较小巧的“推钮”，翻译成“把手”略显粗壮。

n 此段译文的内容涉及到工程测量，由于译者缺乏对setting-out（放线）、levels（高度）和alignment（排列、对准）等一些基本测量术语的必要了解，原文限定明确的承包商义务变得不知所云。
改译：承包商应负责按工程师书面提交的原始基准点、基准线和参照标高如实准确地对工程进行放线，并在符合上述要求的情况下，负责校正工程各部分的位置、标高、尺寸和排列，同时提供一切有关的必要仪器、装置和劳力。
2. 习语地道idioms
原文：Such is the winding path of human fate that after two years he abandoned Law for Anthropology and Chinese. Paradoxically, he found his true way by entering the thickets, with much bewilderment, of Daoist philosophy in translation.
译文：但命运的安排往往出人意料，两年之后，他弃修法律，改习人类学及汉学。他从阅读译文着手，闯进了道家哲学的迷宫，却是歪打正着，因此踏上康庄大道。
n “歪打正着”与“paradoxically”意思贴切，但具有贬义的感情色彩，实不足取，不如改用平实一点的“反而”。
改译：但命运的安排往往出人意表，两年之后，他弃修法律，改习人类学及汉学。他从阅读译文着手，闯进了道家哲学的迷宫，却反而因此找到生命的真途。
原文：Now that he is buried almost up to the bow tie in government documents, he still finds time to read, for pleasure, fascinating, well-written non-fiction.
译文：现在，虽然无数政府文件堆到了蝴蝶领结之下，他依然忙里偷闲，阅读写得引人入胜的文章。
n 英文原文“buried almost up to the bow tie”意象生动幽默，照搬过来却未必符合中文的文化习惯。反过来，中文的习惯用语“堆积如山”不但意思贴近，所构建的意象也不逊色于原文。即使不具比喻意象，中文的四字结构也是颇显文采的。
改译：现在，虽然政府文件堆积如山，他依然忙里偷闲，阅读文采斐然、引人入胜的文章。
六、 风格贴近Style Felicity
提交的译文除传递原文的实质内容以外，是否在表现形式上贴近原文，从而让读者从阅读过程本身得到与原文读者相当的体验，这是翻译质量的理想衡量标准。
1. 文类相称genre：文类，即“语文类型”，又称“体裁”、“文体”等等。不同的文类有各自的写作规范，翻译时应当遵从这些规范。
原文：It has been noted with concern that the stock of books in the library has been declining alarmingly. Students are requested to remind themselves of the rules of the borrowing and returning of books, and to bear in mind the needs of other students. Penalties for overdue book will in the future be strictly enforced.
译文：查本馆图书锐减，学生当不忘本馆书籍流通之规则及他人之需。逾期不归还者将受重罚。
原文：The number of books in the library has been going down. Please make sure you know the rules for borrowing, and don't forget that the library is for everyone's convenience. So from now on, we're going to enforce the rules strictly. You have been warned!
译文：图书馆的书籍最近大量减少，请大家牢记借书的规定，不要忘记图书馆是为了大家的方便。因此，从现在起，我们将严肃地执行规定。我们特作此警告！
n 前者为正式通知，后者为非正式通知。因此根据不同的文体特征，译法也有所不同。
原文：Nothing herein contained shall prevent a carrier or a shipper from entering into any agreement, stipulation, condition, reservation or exemption as to the responsibility and liability of the carrier or the ship, for the loss of damage to, or in connection with the custody and care and handling of, goods prior to the loading on, and subsequent to the discharge from the ship on which the goods are carried by sea.
译文：本公约中的任何规定，都不禁止承运人或托运人就承运人或船舶对海运货物在装船前或卸货后的保管、照料和搬运或与之有关的货物的灭失或损害的责任，订立任何协议条款。
n 法律文书的一个突出特点是词汇并列（juxtaposition），即同（近）义词或相关词往往由and或or连接使用（如：stipulations and provisions, complaints and claims, furnish and provide, fulfill or perform, null and void, in full force and effect等），其目的一是通过两个或多个词汇的共同含义来限定其唯一词义，从而排除了由于一词多义可能产生的歧义，体现法律文书的严谨性，二是通过两个或多个词语的并列来体现法律文书的古雅、正式。
n 由于同义词并用在中文法律条文中并不常见，对某些意思重叠的同义词可采用取其相同含义的策略，如：null and void（无效）、terms and conditions（条款）、responsibility and liability（责任）、rights and interests（权益）、rules and regulations（法规）、cease and desist（中止）等。
n 但是取相同含义的做法有时难以确切表达有关法律文书所预想的情况或事实，这时则要对同义词的细微差别认真体会，尽量选择与原文对应的汉语词语，以避免过于笼统，以偏概全，甚至产生歧义。
n 原译文对于“agreement, stipulation, condition, reservation or exemption”和“responsibility and liability”分别取其相同含义“协议条款”和“责任”，造成译文模糊不定，在法律关系中有时会造成消极后果。不妨将其分别译为“协议、规定、条件、保留或免责条款”和“义务、责任”，让这些中文词语穷尽所有同义词之间的细微差别，使译文没有漏洞。
改译：本公约中的任何规定，都不禁止承运人或托运人就承运人或船舶对海运货物在装船前或卸货后的保管、照料和搬运或与之有关的义务，以及货物的灭失或损害的责任，订立任何协议、规定、条件、保留或免责条款。
2. 语域适当register：语域是指具有某种具体用途的语言变体。依照交际领域的不同，可以把篇章分成正式体、半正式体、公共核心体、半非正式体、非正式体等。在翻译一个篇章时，应当弄清它所属的语域，以便决定选用何种正式程度的词句。
原文：After an hour of climbing, we finally found ourselves at Zhurong Peak, the very apex of Mt. Hengshan, towering 1,296 meters above the sea level.
译文：我们爬了一个钟头，终于到了祝融峰的山顶，它是衡山的最高峰，有1296公尺。
n 名词性短语“an hour of climbing”比从句“we had climbed for an hour”正式、“apex”也比“summit”、“top”典雅，“towering…”分词也比短句“it towers 1,296 meters above the sea level”正式。因此，翻译时可用比较正式的语言。
改译：一小时后，我们终于登上高达海拔1296公尺的衡山之巅——祝融峰。
原文：These observations link with her lifelong interests and her strong belief, held also by her father before her, that the best investment’s in people, especially in young people...in the quiet but effective work that helps us build a decent society…
译文：她与他父亲的心志相同，相信最好的投资是对人，特别是年青人……那使世界变得更完美的工作，虽低调却有效……
n 英文可以简单、直接的表达方式运用在正式的场合，而不失之呆板平凡。相反，译成中文时，未必“simple is beautiful”，以简译简的结果，往往会把正式的文体降低至口语的层次，因而使原义走样、原味流失。
改译：她与父亲心志相同，深信最好的投资是育才，尤以培育年青人为然……此类使世界变得更加美好的工作，虽默默无闻，却成效超卓。
原文：He also taught English to a very original young woman, the individualistic Ningtsu, later to become his warm and courageous wife.
译文：他又认识了一位很有个性的年轻女郎宁祖，并教她英语，这位热情、勇敢的女郎后来做了他太太。
n 英文可以简单、直接的表达方式运用在正式的场合，而不失之呆板平凡。相反，译成中文时，未必“simple is beautiful”，以简译简的结果，往往会把正式的文体降低至口语的层次，因而使原义走样、原味流失。
改译：当时，他又结识一位极有个性的年轻女子宁祖，并教她英语。嗣后，终与这位热情勇敢的女子盟订终身。
3. 笔调贴近tone：笔调是篇章流露出来的感情色彩，同样也是译者应当传递的一种信息。
原文：Their sole enemy is the sea-leopard, which attacks them only in the water, and even then it is not certain that he can always catch them; the consequence is that they are quite fearless on land or ice and will march up to a man with an air of curiosity and an expression of ‘You’re a mighty big penguin, but I am not in the least afraid.’ They certainly think twice before they enter the water from the rookery, because bitter experience has taught them that their enemy lurks under the ice, waiting for just such careless divers.
译文：海豹是企鹅唯一的敌人，它只在水下发动攻击，攻击时海豹并无把握能否能够抓住企鹅；因此，无论是在陆地上还是在冰上，企鹅都没有什么害怕，而且它们会好奇地向人走去，带着一种“你是一只大企鹅，可我一点都不怕”的表情。从栖息处下水前，它们定会考虑再三，因为痛苦的经验已让它们明白：敌人潜伏在冰下，正等待着这些粗心的入水者呢。
n 没有误译的译文，却失去了原文的感染力：原文所弥漫的幽默和拟人的修辞气息（“You’re a mighty big penguin, but I am not in the least afraid”刻画的憨态、“enemy / careless divers”抹上的诙谐、劝世名谚“Think twice before you act”的活用等等）却没有得到很好的再现。
n 为了保留和补救原文的修辞亮色，可以作以下处理：1) 可将“march up”译成“大摇大摆”，“careless”译成“大大咧咧”这样的叠音词，有效的渲染拟人气氛，貌似添译，却非添译。2) “with an expression of…”可以译成“神情自得，似乎在说……”，使拟人口吻得以适度夸张。3) “think twice before…”可以套用中文俗语“三思而后行”以增加文采。
改译：海豹是企鹅唯一的杀手，它只在水下发动攻击，攻击时它并无把握能否得手；因此，无论是在陆地上，还是在浮冰上，企鹅都无所畏惧。它们会好奇地大摇大摆地向人靠近，神情自得，似乎在说“你真是一只超级企鹅啊，可我一点也不怕”。从栖息处下水之前，它们懂得“三思而后行”，因为，过去的经验给它们上了惨痛的一课：敌人正潜伏在冰层下面，悄悄守侯着那些大大咧咧的潜水者哩。
原文：You can’t just take the turkey out of the freezer on Wednesday night and plop it on the counter—your guests will get food poisoning, and you’ll feel less than thankful when an ambulance is rushing your retching dinner party en masse to the hospital.
译文：你不能在星期三晚上才把火鸡从冰柜里拿出来放在厨房台面上——你的客人会食物中毒的。当救护车把你好多呕吐不止的客人急送医院时，你的心情可不会是感激。
n 这是一段出现在题为“Preparing Turkey for Thanksgiving Dinner”的篇章中的文字。在告诫完不可简单解冻火鸡之后，作者节外生枝地详述了可能产生的恶果，特别是“You’ll feel less than thankful”中的“thankful”一词双关。另外还使用了从借自法语的大词“en masse”来烘托行文的幽默。译文表面很“信”的，却不仅读来晦涩，且毫无幽默可言。
改译：你不能在星期三晚上才把火鸡从冰柜里拿出来扔在厨房台面上——你的客人会食物中毒的。当救护车把你呕吐不止的参加宴会的全体贵宾火速送往医院时，你就来不及“感恩”了。
七、 技术细节Technical Elements
提交的译文是否没有技术性瑕疵（拼写和标点符号使用正确），这是翻译质量的完善衡量标准。

八、 整体效果Presentation (displays excellent presentation and legibility)
提交的译文在物理表现上，词语和风格是否前后统一、版式是否与原文或客户要求统一、任何歧义或不确定之处是否添加了译者注，这也是翻译质量的完善衡量标准。
