译者注：这首歌真正的作者是法国的歌手Jacques Brel，原名叫 Le Moribond（将死的人），发表于1961年。当时Jacquez Brel发觉自己罹患癌症，于是写下这首伤感的歌曲，在与病症搏斗了十几年之后，他终在1978年病逝，死时四十九岁。与Brel私交不错的美国诗人歌手Rod Mckuen,很早就把这首歌译成了英文，并且在1964年由民歌界元老的Kinston Trio率先灌录成唱片，不过当时并没有造成太大的轰动。跟Rod Mckuen颇有交情的Terry Jacks当时在作为那时的明星乐队Beach Boy的吉他伴奏时，有一次，在录音的时候，他建议Beach Boys灌录「Seasons in the Sun」这首歌。不过，录完之后，可能是由于效果不如理想，Beach Boys决定不发行。而极为喜爱这首歌的Terry则为了追悼一位意外过世的好友，决定自己来灌唱。Ter取得作者的同意，把最后一段歌词稍加修改，同时以轻快的节奏处理，使歌曲显得轻松一些，可是完工之后，在架子上一摆就是一年。有一天，他把带子放出来听，正好一位年轻人送报纸来到他家，听到了这首歌，于是要求是否可以带自己的朋友过来欣赏。年轻人的反应，使Terry决定自己发行这首歌曲。这首歌于1974年3月2日开始在全美排行榜的冠军位置停留了3周，唱片成为金唱片，销量达到六百多万张，当时可谓是家喻户晓。
