Vivian: How long have you been a Translator? Lynnbest: Actually, I began to be a translator when I was still a sophomore. At the very start, I handled the escort interpretation for business negotiation. Vivian: What’s the attraction of VIP membership to you? What's your expectation to your future projects? Lynnbest: I think the VIP membership attracting me most on the provided opportunities for more clients to keep informed about and find out me. As the old saying goes, the gold will glitter forever, but I think that only the publicized gold can be gloriously radiant. Meanwhile, I also regard Elanso as one of the marketing means most suitable for me to promote myself. In the future, I wish, through the Elanso platform, to take more projects suitable for me and establish a good cooperative relationship with all of my clients.
Vivian: What’s your advantage comparing to the other translators with over 10 years of working experience? Lynnbest: Compared with other translators with over 10 years of working experience, I have less translating experience, which is the right thing I need to learn from them. However, I have some of my personal advantages. I am an earnest and meticulous person, paying much attention to the details, which is also one of the necessary essential conditions for becoming an excellent translator. As pointed out by Yanfu, a famous translator in China, that “one new term established, ten days or a month spent”, success or failure usually depends on the attention paid to and the attitude toward the details.
Vivian: How do you feel about our procedure of profile verification and expert verification? Anything to share with other applicants? Lynnbest: I think Elanso provides first-class customer services where the service coordinators will help you to deal with all difficulties arising from the verifying processes. Lynnbest: As a freelance, I have larger free space and keep my options open. At the very beginning when I begun to engage in this industry, I did worry about whether I were able to take any projects every day. Later when I have stabilized my customer sources, the monthly income tends to be fixed gradually. As a matter of fact, I never popularize myself sedulously. The only thing I do is to make my every effort to perfect the articles on hand for all clients, who finally become my long-term cooperative clients. Some of them even recommend me to other persons.
Vivian: Before your contact with Elanso, have you ever worked in any traditional translation company? Lynnbest: Yes, I have. I have kept good relationships with several authoritative translation companies all over the country all along.
Vivian: Under the traditional translation setting, translators are thought as being a weak professional community. They need to pay intermediary or commission fees. Some even suffer the financial losses through prices compression or refusal of payment after the completion of the work. What is your view on this? Lynnbest: In my opinion, there are two reasons: one is that the translators are not qualified, which may result in the poor translation quality and the failure to return the translated articles back in time. Speaking from this point, the key is to improve their personal translation skills and correct their attitudes towards translation. The other one is related to the translation companies themselves. Some companies are provided with the poor credit standing and invariably squeeze translators for making the biggest profit. However, such translation companies usually are small-scale or even the bubble companies and their operation won’t be maintained for a long time. The only thing we can do as translators is to judge whether the companies to be cooperated run normally and whether any events regarding the financial losses or the refusal of payment once took place by making online research or consulting with friends. Basically speaking, the translation fee paid for normal translation companies to translators is comparatively fair and reasonable and to cooperate with them is both guaranteed and pleasurable.
Vivian: What is the difference of the work flow between Elanso and the traditional translation agencies? Lynnbest: In my opinion, the difference can be mainly concluded into two points: one is that the Elanso greatly shortens the distance between translators and clients. In Elanso, clients are allowed to communicate with translators directly and get an overall insight into translators. Translators, meanwhile, may also contact with direct clients, which to some extent reduces their dependence on traditional translation companies. Vivian: Many translators feel that online translation is a complicated affair. What is your idea on this? Lynnbest: Frankly speaking, for the first time when I carried out the online translation, I did feel in fear and trembling and worried about whether I could receive the translation fee at all time. However, as the taken projects increase, I feel more and more keenly the advantages of online translation in its convenience, rapidity and worry-saving.
