Having the latest graphics games and other applications releasing left, right and centre on the Apple iPhone is good, but what’s the point of having a mobile device if you cannot get the different software on the move, why wait to you get home?
Well you do not have to if the Application is under 10MB, we are hearing from the WWDC right now that the iPhone App Store will not only be available in 62 countries but you will also be able to download the software over cell, WiFi and iTunes. Developers can reach the end user much easier thanks to this big change, having users get apps wirelessly means a much bigger market.
You will be able to download updates to software wirelessly; the developers will not only set the price of the application but also get to keep 70% of the revenues with no other fees at all. This means a better deal for developers and more chance of cheaper software for iPhone users.
They want to appeal to enterprises as well and thanks to feedback, they will be adding a third way to get apps and that is via ad hoc. If you know networking or gaming on the PSP, you will know this is a more direct method of connecting. Enterprises will be able to distribute apps themselves on their intranet and users will sync their custom apps through iTunes.
So this year will see not only an increase in iPhone apps, but also a much easier way to get them.
