The 2 main chemicals in question are phenoxyethanol and chlorphenesin; which can cause symptoms ranging from vomiting and diarrhea to respiratory distress and difficulty breathing. Even though the cream specifically states mothers do not need to wash off the cream before nursing, it that exposure to the cream via ingestion that poses the health risks to infants. The FDA also recommends contacting your physician immediately if you notice any unusual symptoms or behaviors in your baby. Researchers will be focused on how living environment affects immune system maturation by examining intestinal flora and determining if protection of allergies and autoimmune disease is a result of total bacterial load or specific microbes.
