Looks like I'll be speaking at IxDa 08 after all. Here's my topic:
"Experience changes everything. A design shop creates a marketing
campaign. A marketing shop designs the user interface for a mainstream
video game console. A big brand agency coordinates the design and
construction of a concept retail experience. What’s going on?
This presentation will take a look at the increasingly blurring roles
of individuals and organizations as we pursue the planning, design and
development of experiences. We’ll discuss the evolution of skills and
backgrounds and attitudes that it takes to thrive in an increasingly
fragmented world where the lines between marketing, technology and even
design seem fuzzy. We’ll take a look at some social features we
designed for the Nasa website re-launch initiative and how we began
thinking past the browser and into the mobile environment."
IxDA Interaction 08 (Feb 8-10)
I'll be heading out to Savannah Georgia on February 8 for IxDA Interaction 08. Not speaking there, but I'll be doing my other favorite activity—listening. Interaction 08 is billed as follows:
"Join several hundred Interaction Designers from around
the world as we address the design of interactive systems of all
types: applications (web and desktop), mobile, consumer electronics,
digitally enhanced environments, and more. Start your year off with
stimulating talk, fun parties, and smart discussions about our growing
field."
MIX 08 (March 5-7)
I'm off to Vegas to join the folks from Microsoft (and Guy Kawasaki) at MIX 08 where I'll be giving my talk on The Fuzzy Tail. I'm really looking forward to this. Like most huge organizations, Microsoft is likely filled with both silos and pockets of innovation. I'm curious to see how the talk will go over. Guess we'll find out. Here's what Microsoft's user experience evangelist, Chris Bernard has to say about the event:
"MIX is probably my favorite event that Microsoft hosts all year. This
year the 72 hour conversation gets far most interesting with the
additional of a focused MIX UX track that will feature folks like Lou
Carbone, David Armano, the fine folks from Adaptive Path and designers
from our Office, Surface and Media and Entertainment teams."
SXSW, Digital Marketing + Blogger Social (March-April)
I'm still undecided on SXSW, and recently got an invitation to attend a panel at Adage's Digital Marketing 08—but I'll be at Blogger Social '08 for sure. Should be fun.
