We saw yesterday how the RNC is raising the massive dollars compared to the DNC. That's because McCain has been able to help raise those big $28,500-sized contributions for his national party while the Democrats were still fighting their primary.
That advantage is now over.
Later today, Obama heads to Hollywood for a fundraiser that will include, as the AP reported yesterday, Samuel L. Jackson, Dennis Quaid, Cindy Crawford and Sugar Ray Leonard [...] The AP says that tickets for today’s event are priced at $30,000, with the money split between Obama’s campaign and the DNC.
Obama's cut of that amount will be the maximum $2,300 allowed (or maybe $4,600, since you can still max out for the "primary" and then the general). The rest will go to the DNC. A few events like these, and the DNC will start catching up to their Republican foes.
The RNC and McCain combined currently hold a $38 million advantage. Throw in the $85 million in public financing Obama will refuse, and that gap is now $123 million.
We can't have any complacency. This isn't the season to be shy with our pocketbooks. Everyone can drop even $10 to a single candidate, whether it's Obama or your favorite down-ballot Democrat.
