Finally cranes are up for a makeover. LYNX is a concept mobile crane that’ll surely put the existing ones to shame and more. Designed by Jiri Kubec, LYNX is evolution of cranes inside out. Designed as a project for his diploma, Kubec has proposed some very interesting changes. LYNX has a lifting capacity of 80 tons so is quite capable of getting the job done. The beauty of this concept lies in the proposed modifications for the driver of crane. The driver’s and the operator’s cabin are combined into one and are attached at one end of an auxiliary two-piece hydraulic folding arm. This improvement means that the driver can change his position to be at the ground level or go up to improve his view as and when desired. So the cabin can be moved into the transport position or to the operating position via some handy controls. Among other changes proposed in LYNX are joystick controls and pedals that utilize drive-by-wire technology. Great maneuverability and safety for the drivers characterize LYNX, something that bode well for its movement from conceptualization to adoption.
