Fast food is convenient…a little too convenient
and I’d be lying if I said that I don’t partake every now and then. I try to eat subway when I can if I have to eat out during my lunch break. People are aware that fast food is high in calories but most people underestimate how much calories they are taking in and a typical Mcdonalds value meal contains about 50% of your daily recommended 2000 calories. Here are a few numbers to think about and perhaps avoid next time you visit the golden arches.
A triple think Shake contains 1110 calories!
5 Piece Chicken Selects 630 Calories, 300 from fat
Double 1/4 Pounder w/ cheese 740 calories
McRib holds 500 calories, 240 from fat
Premium Crispy Chicken Club sandwich -660, grilled-570
Breakfast meals contain anywhere from about 700 to 1500 calories, depending what you feeling like throwing down your gullet.
Here is a few calorie cutting tactics when ordering fast food.
1. Ask for the sandwich without the bread. You may get a funny look but they will do it for you.
2. No mayo, no cheese, no bacon on your sandwich. Stick to mustard and ketchup.
3. When ordering a salad, use low fat dressings. No Creamy Style dressing.
4. If you must order a salad with chicken get the grilled chicken.
5. Fish is only healthy when its not battered and deep fried so avoid thinking that your doing yourself a favor by eating a fish sandwich.
6. Drink diet or water. If you live in the south you know how sweet is in sweet tea. Avoid that too or sweeten it with splenda. This goes for coffee too. Best bet? Drink it black!
7. Avoid the obvious “fat-pills” like sundays, shakes, and pies (to include Mcflurries which have about 550 calories)
8. Think about what you want and how to cut the calories before you get to the counter and make a fast decision. Your more apt to order something fatty when you are rushed. Take your time and make the best of it.
One last thing is to remember all of this when your children eat at Mcdonalds. All things are good in moderation (with the exception of things like crack cocaine and stuff like that).
