Sichuan earthquake, also known as the Wenchuan Earthquake has given a tremendous impact to an area of 100 kilometers and a population of tens of millions. It’s even more destructive than Tangshan earthquake in 1976. In the passed few days, the whole world carries a concern for tens of thousands live in Sichuan Province. Main work force has been sent to rescue and recover “lifelines”. Their work includes recovering railways and public roads, delivering rescue materials and personnel by air and by road and transfer the wounded. The prime rescue time, 3 days after the earthquake, has passed and the most critical time has come forward.
Rescue work is a systematic one. It needs both the support and loving care of the whole society as well as the participation of some professions. Lives could be saved if we have some well-worked designs of medical devices before hand.
Business Week awarded People’s Choice Prizes to two life-saving designs last October.
Mechanical Advantage Tourniquet requires easy operation by one-hand, which could be easily done by the wounded themselves and stops blood in ten seconds. It has already been tested and applied by military forces in many countries.
