‘America’s Next Top Model’ Recap
Episode 10.6 “House of Pain ”
Air Date: March 26, 2008
The show kicks off with Lauren having to give herself some confidence , which she knows needs to happen soon. Claire sits down for a phone call with her husband, and shares with us how much she misses her daughter, who is insanely adorable! Claire (who isn’t one for confrontation, imho) makes the comment to her husband that “some people” in the house aren’t tolerable. And by “some people” we know who she means…Dominique. Big surprise! The morning starts with everything bickering back and forth (primarily Claire and Dominique) about Dominique’s alarm clock that keeps going off…and off…and off. Her reasoning is because she doesn’t know how to work it. Someone get the girl an alarm clock that works! Drama is being caused by a measly alarm clock. Jeez! And Dominique is convinced that the girls are trying to put her down because she’s so strong. Or maybe they just want to get ample sleep and not wake up an hour before they need to? I can’t wait until Dominique is out of this house. Her energy is in the dumps and brings the rest of the girls down.
I know this is going to sound harsh, but what’s with Dominique’s mother telling her, “I’ll see you at the top!” I hope she understands it takes a hell of a lot more than that to make it as a top model.
The limo takes the girls to a dance studio, where the girls are going to get a crash course in walking from the master herself, Tyra. Dressed in red t-shirts and leggings, the girls walk in the studio to learn how to be fierce. Loves it.
Tyra’s trick of the trade: when in doubt, model like you’re in pain.
At first I was thinking what the?!, but you know what? It worked. From headache pains to menstrual cramps, Tyra showed the girls how to pose with pain, and beauty. Following the exercise, the girls took turns in a pose-off. Back at the house, the girls read the new wave Tyra mail, and find out that the day’s work was actually a challenge. The winner is Anya, and her prize is a photo shoot with Nigel Barker.
Anya heads to a studio for her soot, and Nigel tells her the look is going to timeless. A naked girl in a bed…it doesn’t get more timeless than that.
Anya returns to the house, and tells the girl the concept of the shoot. Aimee says she’s glad she didn’t win the challenge as she isn’t comfortable posing nude due to her Mormon upbringing.
Dominique comes down with a cold, and tries to turn in early. This of course is put to a halt when Claire, Lauren and Whitney are chilling on the couch chatting and continue to beat a dead horse, rehashing the morning’s beef. I’m not a Dominique fan (I think that’s only Dominique’s own mother), but I found this to be really lame. The three of them just HAVE to sit near her and gab about her while she tries to get some rest? Come on.
The next day the girls head out to Williamsburg in Brookly to work with Russell James (who you might remember from VH1’s The Shot). The challenge is to embody a certain genre of music, so the girls will be dressed accordingly.
From heavy metal to emo, the girls do a fairly good job posing. Poor Lauren is stuck in a red latex outfit for pop music, and Claire dons a tutu square dancing skirt and a severe red lip. Dominique looks far better in her folk garb than she normally does. Stacy-ann frustrates James because her poses are too contrived. Aimee feels like she’s having an out-of-body experience because she’s so done up.
At panel, the girls are welcomed by the standard judges, as well as James. Whitney’s picture is great (it doesn’t even look like her), and Claire’s is the exact opposite. She just looks a little too posed and cheesy. Last up is Dominique, and I find it hard to believe that was her best shot. She looked gorgeous during the shoot, and her body looked awkward in the photo that was selected. No one was amazing, but no one fell on their face, so I’m curious who will be in the bottom two.
In deliberation, Paulina tears Aimee apart, and I’m with her. She looks like a cheap Vegas showgirl. Claire’s picture is criticized, but I blame the styling. It doesn’t look like anything a country singer would wear! She looks like she works at a kid’s birthday party.
With only eight photos in her hands (have we gotten rid of that many girls already?), my favorites are chosen in the beginning: Whitney and Lauren. When Dominique is called, Claire’s face drops. Ouch! In the bottom two tonight: Claire and Aimee.
I’m hoping Aimee goes. Her personality lacks substance and she looks who checks you out at the A&P.
Claire stays, and Aimee goes home. In tears, Tyra gives her the token farewell pep talk (too little too late), and poor Aimee is a blubbering wannabe model as she packs it up.
