Last Call for Planet Earth is a brand new documentary coming out on January 31st. The focus… the environmental effects of building. Very cool. According to Architect Online, the film will premiere in, “Brussels at the European Commission’s Berlaymont Building. Conceived by Belgium-based filmmaker Jacques Allard, the movie features interviews with 12 leading architects around the world, including Thom Mayne, Kengo Kuma, Massimiliano Fuksas, and Christoph Ingenhoven.”
The brain behind the show is not an architect, although his father was, and Allard notes that he has a large admiration for all the charisma architects have and how they each have their own unique way of building with sustainability practices. “Screenings are scheduled throughout Europe this winter and spring; an accompanying book is also due to appear later this year.”
According to Allard, the film has been made into three versions; two for the general public and one with, “More technical specifications for students in architecture, architects and engineers.” You can see a clip below, and read more of Allard’s own words at the YouTube site - this is his video post and he wrote much about the experience.
The film looks a little dry (the music was not helping). However, I’m interested in seeing it. These architects should have some great thoughts on design. I’m betting the book will be very nice as well.
