Thus far we have experienced a mostly tense relationship with Lionsgate when it comes to their upcoming CG-thriller The Spirit from director Frank Miller. Last week we posted a group of set photos that we weren’t supposed to have, and were asked to take them down. Then days later we posted sexy nurse photos of Scarlett Johansson and were asked within hours to take them down. So it should come as no surprise to us that we had to get the following photos, which are official, second hand. Thanks to a good friend who must be on Lionsgate’s “cool kids” list, we are able to share some hi-res promotional photos from this upcoming Sin City knock-off.
And as you can see, these new photos are lame ducks. In fact, this whole mess has left a relatively salty taste in my mouth, and I am no longer excited for this project. Consider this your warning Lionsgate, if this movie continues to go down the path that we can clearly see from these photos, you are in for a world of hurt. So far, with the exception of the photos that we were forced to take down, this movie looks like a cross between Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and a half-assed Sin City. I don’t know about all of you, but that doesn’t exactly get me excited.

The Spirit won’t hit theaters until January 16, 2009 (and don’t worry, we can wait). It will star Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Jaime King, Gabriel Macht and Paz Vega.
