Transformers 2 Update: No Jonah Hill, A New Hottie and No Transforming Aircraft Carriers

Transformers 2 Update

Just as Michael Bay said, the pre-production media whirlwind around Transformers 2, next summer’s most anticipated film, has been full of misdirection and hot air. But then again, what summer tentpole’s production isn’t like that. I read an article today saying that Robert Downey Jr. might not return for Iron Man 2 — to quote Mike Myers in Wayne’s World, “Cha?! Right…”

In this mega-transforming update we are going to try and clear things up for you, based on some hard intel that we’ve gathered over the past 24 hours. We begin with an interview that MTV did with uber-produced Lorenzo di Bonaventura on the set of G.I. Joe this week. He officially squashed the rumor that Superbad star Jonah Hill was in the running to play the college friend of Sam, played by Shia LaBeouf. He did say however, that they will have a couple of casting surprises soon.

Also in the casting arena, Bonaventura confirmed that Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Jon Voight were all on board for the second flick, and that shooting will start in Philadelphia and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania next month. “Michael’s got some really great stuff planned,” which includes, of course, more whacky rumors. As long as it all ends with Giant F*cking Robots blowing shit up, I will be able to forgive.

Isabel LucasAnother smaller casting tidbit was discovered on the website of Meissner Management, a Sydney, Australia based talent agency. Their listing for actress Isabel Lucas, who has previously starred on the Australian show “Home and Away”, states that she has been cast in Transformers 2 as a character named Alice. I consulted some past casting call listings for the film that have found their way online, only to find no record of a character named Alice, so who knows — it could just be bit part. One thing is for sure, though, Ms. Lucas is pretty hot — as you can clearly see from the image to the right.

And finally we go back to comments from Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who also debunked a rumor about one of the possible transformers in the film. A low-rumble of a rumor had been going around that Michael Bay might be including a character known as Broadside in the film, an aircraft carrier that transforms into a mega-huge robot. Bay had already hinted at the fact that such a character would be wicked expensive to create, and now based on Bonaventura’s comments, it appears that he will not make an appearance. Then again, that could be mis-information… I’m confused.

Hopefully you are a little less confused and your need for Transformers 2 news has been curbed, at least for now. We will continue to sift through all the BS and bring you the latest all the way up to June of 2009 when this bad boy hits theaters, so stay tuned.

Sound Off: How much of the information that we just reported do you think is true?
