I have read an essay about an old man who came to American from East European. Wanting something to eat in a restaurant in Manhattan, he sat at a table with nothing on it and expected waiter’s coming and ordering dishes for him. However, for quite a long time, still no one came till he saw a woman sit on the opposite side with a full plate of food.
The old man knew from the women that the restaurant served buffet and there was no need for waiter. As expected, the old man saw many food showed on the table in quite a long row. ‘Started from one end you picked for dishes that favored you one by one and the men at the other side of the table would tell you how much you should pay’ the woman told him.
The old man said, from then on he knew the laws of doing things in United States, ‘Here in United States, life is a buffet . As long as you are willing to pay, it is ok that you may want anything and you may win success. But if you just wait for others to bring you what you want, you will never succeed. You must stand up and fetch for yourself.’
‘Life is a buffet .’ What a meaningful remark! It means that you should depend on yourself, be active and hunt for opportunity. It is true that success needs opportunity, but the God of Fortune won’t favor those who have always been waiting for windfalls.
In our daily life, we usually see such examples that two person graduated from the same university, however, several years later, there were a whale of differences between them.. Also, we see examples of persons of both success and failure: Some are knowledgeable yet achieve nothing while some can fully exert his ability and barely enough to handle tasks…Talent is no doubt important, yet it never equals success which needs one to fight, to strive for and to create by himself.
Everything is complicated and changeable; things remain the same while human have changed a lot. The age of ’Gold always glitters.’’ Good wine needs no bush’ has undergone changes silently. Lyric say it well that, ‘It is not that I don’t understand, but that the world changes so fast …’.Well, in such a competitive age, the rule of ‘superior wins and the inferior loses’ is not merely a rule of nature but also a rule of life. How to win a place in the world? The old man put it well that,’ Life is a buffet dinner. So long as you are will to pay, it’s ok that you may choose anything you like.’ Things of all kinds are laid out right there, provided that your can afford. However, how can you manage to afford your desired things? Only if you succeed, otherwise you will never win by waiting for other person to feed you. Do stand up and fetch it for yourself.
