You can never accuse of Johnny Depp of falling into a rut with his roles. He’s played everything from a pirate to masochistic barber, and now he can add Indian and Mad Hatter to the list.
At their conference in Hollywood yesterday, Disney announced that Depp would play the sidekick Tonto in The Lone Ranger, and the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. In fact, Depp himself made the announcement, emerging onto the Kodak Theater stage in full Capt. Jack Sparrow garb, as the USC marching band played the “Lone Ranger” theme.
Depp did some Jack Sparrow schtick with Disney chairman Dick Cook, and also hinted at a third role. It was confirmed today that he’ll reprise Jack in a fourth “Pirates” movie, and he’s also been tapped to star in Sin City 3.
Sheesh! Depp has nine films in development, and you wonder how he has time to eat, sleep and all those other necessities.
