Talk have been abound that Twitter is the new RSS feed. In other words it is the new way to deliver information or at least notify everyone that you have a new item posted on one’s blog or website. To me it seems to be more of an alert system when it comes to posts and new items published.
And for me one of the main problems with Twitter is it tends to get annoying. This is so true when you follow more than a hundred or so persons. Rants, microposts, musings and even conversation on Twitter can be amusing and even helpful. But there is a satiation point. There comes at time when just so many twits a day can be unnerving and even at one point stressful.
I have known friends who downright refuse to join Twitter or have simply logoff. They even called it an addiction. To a certain extent that is true.
But is there a way to enjoy Twitter without being stressed?
Aside from checking only on Twitter via the web. One can do the following:
1. Turn off the alerts to those that you follow, save for those that you like. It is a cruel but necessary process.
2. Subscribe to the RSS of your profile/timeline. Even if it is protected this should work.
After this you will only get notified of the twits of those you feel like really following. And get to read the rest of the twits from the Twitters at your convenience via the feed reader of one’s choice.
