OSSpinions.org - Open Source Software User Reviews

Translate Into:

What it does

OSSpinions is a site that allows people to review and comment on open source software. The site introduces people to new open source software that they might not have known about before and enables them to read what other people have had to say about it. With so much software available for downloading, OSSpinions saves people time and effort as they do not have to evaluate all of the software themselves. By allowing users to recommend certain software and comment on it, other users are able to select the best software. Having a forum gives users the opportunity to ask questions to the rest of the community or make suggestions for improvements.

In their own words

OSSpinions helps you evaluate & discover open source projects. Evaluating and utilizing open source projects can often be time consuming. OSSpinions provides a place where people can share experiences and expertise about various projects. On OSSpinions you may find useful open source projects that you did not know you needed. When reviewers make recommendations, these recommendations are passed on to others who have similar interests. For you, this means the recommendations you get are customized for you.

Why it might be a killer

By providing a forum for programmers and others to share information about open source software, OSSpinions could become popular amongst developers looking to save time by sharing best practices. It could also lead to the development of better software as it can be constantly improved based on user recommendations and experiences.

Some questions

What is their business model? There does not appear to be any advertising at the moment and the site is free. How will they distinguish themselves from the plethora of blogs and forums already out there that offer similar capabilities?
