Paris Hilton is in Turkey to help choose the new Miss Turkey 2008. She said she’s not just looking for a pretty face, but she’s also looking for a “good heart” during her time judging the competition. “I’m going to look at how the girls carry themselves, what they look like, the way they dress and what they say,” she said.
How did Turkey decide the American Paris Hilton would be a good judge for their competition? I guess it’s because she’s such a high profile “celebrity” in the states. I say “celebrity” in quotes because I’m still trying to figure out why she is a celebrity. She barely acts. She barely sings. She barely wrote a book worth reading. She’s known more for partying than anything. Oh, and for having a lot of money.
This is the girl our teens are looking up to. The girl many teen girls want to be. The girl that many teen boys want to date. When asked if she was happy to be a role model to teens Paris answered, “Yes.” Not a “yes, I hope they learn from my mistakes.” Or “it’s actually difficult to be a role model.” Nope, just a simple yes.
Let’s look at Paris’ accomplishments. There are so many.
- She’s a star in her own home-made sex video.
- She was arrested for stealing said sex tape from a street newspaper vendor. She was caught on tape, but the charges were still dropped.
- Somebody hacked in to her cell phone and exposed several racy pictures she was keeping on her phone.
- She was arrested for drunk driving.
- Then chose to continue to drive on a suspended license.
-
- She went to jail. She got out early for “health issues.” Then she went back to jail.
-
- She was the star of a show called The Simple Life where she made fun of us working folk. The show was so annoying I wanted to throw my television across the room every time I saw an ad for it.
-
- She was in a B movie whose title I can’t even remember (something about wax).
- She wrote a book telling young girls how to be a diva.
- She’s been linked to several, several different men.
- A lot of the outfits she wears in public are really on the edge of actually being classified as clothing.
- Every time she speaks I want to pluck out my ear drums with a very sharp pencil.
It really sucks that this is a role model for our kids. When she got out of jail she said she was going to be a better role model and be more charitable. Yet all I’ve seen in the news is her at one party after another.
With role models like these, we need to start looking for new ones. How about starting in our house? We can be role models for our teens. We may not wear the new hot jeans or listen to the best radio stations, but we still make a big impression on our teens. We are still a big influence.
