Yesterday I reviewed Flo Rida featuring Timbaland with Elevator, and the main thrust of my post was how it showed jealousy on Timbaland’s part for not being involved with this song, Umbrella by Rihanna and featuring Jay Z.
It was only at that point that I realised the song, which let’s face it was absolutely everywhere last summer, has never actually been featured here on Killed By The Video Star, which to be honest, is an absolute travesty.
We’ve covered a couple of Rihanna songs since then, but none have quite compared to this, a song that I actually disliked when it first came out but now absolutely love.
There can’t be a soul alive who hasn’t heard this song at least once, and most will have also seen the video, which makes this review kind of difficult. What I would say is that its now a year since the song came out and it’s still as fresh as a newborn baby.
I could do without Jay Z’s little bit at the beginning of the song as it feels tagged on but apart from that the song is stunning in every way. It’s catchy to the point of mind blowing, and is probably the best modern r’n'b song ever produced - it’s certainly the biggest selling.
The video is also stunning, mainly because it features Rihanna who has got to be one of the most gorgeous women in the world. I never thought Beyonce Knowles and Halle Berry would be outsexyed but it’s happened, and here is the result.
This review was far too long in coming, but hopefully it will do the world a service in reminding us all just quite how good a song this is. Play it again Jay.
