‘America’s Next Top Model’ Recap
Episode 10.12 “Ready for My Close-up”
Air Date: May 7, 2008
The day of the shoot, the girls arrive at what appears to be a castle (or at least resembles a castle) for a shoot that will make them out to be Italian starlets of the 1950s. The big surprise? Top Model judge Nigel Barker will be the photographer, meaning the girls better put on their game faces, and knock this photoshoot out of the park. Anything that goes wrong will surely make its way back to Tyra.
Anya is up first. The makeup makes her look like a tranny, which is saying a lot, as Anya has very light, delicate features. She doesn’t have a natural sense of movement, and it shows in this shoot. Fatima is up next, and gets an extra 50 frames thanks to winning the photography challenge. It’s a good thing because the poor thing needs them. There’s no movement in her long limbs, and she doesn’t seem to know what to do with her body. Whitney plays with her body in a better way, but doesn’t have her facial expressions down. Still looking a bit posed, she does look like a knockout styled as an old movie star. Dominique shoots last, and if Anya looked like a tranny…Dominique looks like an actual man. Her harsh eyebrows, heavy lips and insanely high cheekbones are all packed with makeup, making it difficult to see anything else as she poses.

In front of the panel, the pictures aren’t quite as bad. Anya’s is downright fetching, while Whitney’s falls short of stunning. It’s definitely pretty, but lacks a wow factor. Fatima and Dominique’s photos are both quite boring, especially Fatima’s. When Nigel makes the comment that it looks like a Covergirl ad, no one can argue. Dominique’s is more high fashion, but her harsh angles aren’t working in her favor.
In deliberation, Tyra mentions that week after week it seems Fatima takes direction but does nothing with it. She says that it seems Fatima brushes the judges off and she isn’t a good listener. With this, I’m pretty sure it’s Fatima that’s going home. Her relaxed, snotty attitude can only get her so far.
Whitney and Anya are staying for sure. Anya’s picture came out great, despite her intentions, and Whitney couldn’t have done poorly in this shoot had she tried.
So who goes home? Dominique.
I know, I know. We’ve all wanted her to go home for quite some time, but really…didn’t we want Fatima to head back to the States first?
