Tourism MOUs in Pakatan Rakyat-ruled states terminated [The Kuala Lumpur Traveler]

Translate Into:

Tourism Malaysia…. should be changed to Tourism BN-StatesThanks to Azalina Othman, her ministry’s latest move to cancel the tourism-related memorandum of understandings in the Pakatan Rakyat-ruled states just proves to the whole rakyat the true color of the BN Government.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism memorandums of understanding with Opposition-ruled state governments will be terminated given the change in leadership, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

She said this was in line with the termination of Tourism Action Councils in the states which were previously chaired by Barisan Nasional’s state executive councillors in charge of tourism in each state.

“Normally, the council works together with the state executive council and local authorities.

“But now that the leadership in the state governments have changed, we have to terminate the MoUs and the councils,” she told a post-Cabinet press briefing yesterday.

However, I would not worry too much. Just take a look at Kelantan. Tourism actually contributed a lot to the economy since the state is ruled by the PAS Government. I don’t have actual figures, however looking at the higher number of hotels popping up in Kota Bharu and endless streams of tourist buses every school holiday period, I am sure these newly Pakatan Rakyat-governed states will experience the same phenomenal growth in terms of tourism and it will happen in not too distant future.

Do you also know, that many of these tourist buses are actually tour groups organized by UMNO from other states controlled by BN Government? They just love travelling and shopping in Kelantan because everything is still relatively cheap in the so-called poor state. Only in Kelantan (I think) you can still get a cup of coffee for 50 cents. The coffee shop is located just near the main traffic light in Kubang Kerian. You should give a try next time you visited Kelantan.

In the mean time, may I suggest to Azalina to rename the Tourism Malaysia website to Tourism BN-States?
