In 1990, my sister, her boyfriend (now husband), his cousin and I took the subway to Central Park for the Earth Day festivities. We got there just in time to see the b52s perform. It was an awesome show and an awesome day. Central Park was absolutely packed and finding somewhere to sit was impossible. Every time we tried to find a place to sit on the lawn someone would yell at me to sit down, I was trying but they weren’t very understanding. As soon as I did find a spot to sit everyone stood up and started dancing.
Something else I remember was all the people sitting in the trees and the speakers such as Jane Fonda and Ralph Nader were begging everyone to get out of the trees. The video doesn’t do the day justice. It was warm - I was wearing a denim miniskirt that day and I remember seeing people in shorts and sleeveless shirts. Not a cloud in the sky.
I don’t remember any of the other acts that day, but the b52’s totally rocked. Good times.
