Choke’s New Poster Reminds Us of Palahniuk’s New Book [First Look]

If there is one thing that popped into my mind when I first laid eyes on the brand new poster for the upcoming film Choke, it was the old saying “You are what you eat.” And after a second glance at the poster, which is currently being passed around by Fox Searchlight, I began to think about author Chuck Palahniuk. You remember Palahniuk, he wrote “Fight Club” (the book version). My mind began to wander back to a recent image that I had scene that showed off the cover to Palahniuk’s latest book “Snuff”. For some reason, this new poster was oddly reminiscent of that cover. I began to wonder if this was all a big marketing super-plot, or just another strange coincidence. After pondering for a bit, I gave up. I mean, who really cares? I loved the film and I am going to buy the book, just as any good Palahniuk fan would do.

But just in case you care to see the side-by-side comparison, I have transposed it from my brain to the cyber space below:

Chuck Palahniuk's Snuff and Choke

As you can see, the cover (left) and the poster (right) are not twins, but they are at least distant relatives. And like that third cousin you always wanted to ask to prom, they are both sexy, young and just a little bit dangerous. Conversely, these images are legal.

As for the film Choke, which I had the pleasure of taking in at Sundance, it is as naughty and deviant as they come, all while being wickedly intelligent and well-crafted. Clark Gregg, who you may recognize as the lead SHIELD agent in Iron Man, plops down into the director’s chair for the first time and turns out a very funny, very twisted film that shows off the genius that is actor Sam Rockwell.

But for more on the film, check out my Choke review from Sundance. To see the hi-res version of the new poster, just scroll back up and give the image at the top a click. That will lead you to that which you desire.

Choke hits theaters on September 26th, 2008.
