与金字塔至今仍旧存在形成鲜明对比的是，罗得岛太阳神铜像在世界七大奇迹中，最为短命。耗时12年，于公元前282年完工，却仅在56年后，因为一场地震，罗得岛太阳神铜像从其膝盖部位轰然倒塌。
这个巍峨的雕塑像，由石头和铁打造而成，镀上青铜外壳。它代表了这个岛国的守护神——古希腊太阳神赫利俄斯。它位于地中海上的罗得岛上，面朝Mandráki海港，插图中Mandraki港的入口就在它的双脚之间，不过现在很多人都不再相信。
这个雕塑像约有110英尺（约合33米）高，是世界七大奇迹中最高的雕塑像。建造它，是为了庆祝岛上三个城邦的统一，成功地抵挡住了马其顿王国反对者的长期包围。
