Office 14? What happened to Office 13? [Microsoft Weblog]

Translate Into:

Maybe I’m just missing something but news about the functionality of Office 14 is coming out and aren’t we still on Office 12? See, one of the first blogs I wrote for b5media was called Office 12 Watch and it was all about Office 2007 before it was released and named Office 2007. Now we’re talking about Office 14? What happened to 13?

Is the Mac version of Office considered version 13? Did we skip it for the same reason some skyscraper elevators skip the 13th floor?

Whatever happened to Office 13, Office 14 is stated to be focusing on more web-empowered collaboration and sharing. Specific attention will be given to providing more functionality with Access online.

My only frustration with all of this is it sounds like it will all rely on Sharepoint Server for the functionality to do what end-users are wanting to take advantage of with their documents.

Why can’t we make collaboration with document easy by posting them to a server directory under our own control on our own servers and track changes and modifications.
