Former New York Red Bull Jozy Altidore was
introduced as the newest player at Villareal yesterday, and while speculation has centered on the club loaning out the 18-year-old striker to another club to give him immediate playing time, that might not be the case after all.
Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting that Altidore is expected to stay with Villareal for at least the first half of next season. The club wants to get him settled into Spanish football first, and since he won't return from the Olympics until late August, he would miss the entire preseason. The Yellow Submarine might also wait and see if he can crack their lineup. Only two strikers -- Nihat Kahveci and Giuseppe Rossi -- scored more than 10 goals for the club last season.
I suspect a loan deal will happen eventually, but a few months of training with a Champions League club couldn't hurt. Our little Jozy is
all growns up now. He can handle it.
