In a court filing in Delaware, the Finnish handset giant said the patents were paid in full and royalty-free, according to deals they had struck with Qualcomm in 1992 and 2001. The patent fight between the two companies spans three continents with over a dozen legal battles still pending.

The works council of Nokia Bochum has said the NRW's demands for a refund are inteferring with the negotiations with Nokia over new jobs and severance pay.
