I have four products up for review this week, including two books. One is this book about Chinese cuisine, and the other is a cookbook. I also have a comfy giveaway related to one of the products so make sure you come back to check it out. The Fortune Cookie Chronicles: Adventures in the World of Chinese Food Chinese food is one of the most popular non-American cuisine in the world today. In her book, The Fortune Cookie Chronicles, Jennifer 8. Lee looks at how her parents’ cuisine has been re-invented and popularized, and how it has affected the fortunes of many. Jennifer’s search started when an unprecedented number of people won a lottery. The common denominator among these winners was a set of numbers they got from a fortune cookie. To write her book, Jennifer searched for the origins of chop suey and General Tso’s chicken, as well as the greatest Chinese restaurant in the world. To those who love Chinese food, this book gives interesting insights into how Chinese those hot aromatic meals-in-a-box really are. What you learn may surprise you. My own take-away is that the final product may not be totally Chinese, but the adaptability and resourcefulness of their inventors reflect the culture pretty accurately. About the author: Jennifer 8. Lee, a metro reporter at the New York Times, is also the author of the popular Times article “The Man Date,” for which film rights were recently negotiated. via Hachette Book Group USA; image from Amazon.com Share This
