Frank Miller In Talks To Direct The Massive Mayhem of Hard Boiled

Translate Into:

The juggernaut of Frank Miller continues to roll along, and even while he’s still doing duty on The Spirit, he’s ready to tackle Hard Boiled, which has to be one of his most destructive comic books. He’ll be teaming up with Spirit producer Deborah Del Prete and directing it with this cryptic quote, “I’ve got a really unusual way I want to do it.”

Written in 1990 in three single issues and then collected in a large-size graphic novel in 1993, Hard Boiled tells the story of a normal everyman named Carl Seitz who finds out that he’s a robot. He refuses to accept this at first and goes on a one-man killing spree that can only be defined as epic in nature. The sequences featuring Geof Darrow’s sprawling art, which continues a massive amount of attention to detail, have to be seen to be believed.

Variety reported in 2001 that this movie was being developed by director David Fincher as a vehicle for Nicolas Cage to star in, but that obviously never happened. Which is somewhat of a pity, because it would have been great to see what Fincher could have done with the project. However, I’m glad that Cage will probably not be starring in this. After seeing Next, I’m thinking that he should stay away from high-concept films and try some smaller character pieces. I can’t really imagine who’d be a good Nixon/Carl Seitz right now, but if you have any thoughts, let us know.
