The WSJ today, working off of numbers from the NPD Group, reported 2007 figures for US video game hardware and software, showing that it remains a robust retail sector in this country.
- The Wii finished the year in the top spot for December (1.35 million units sold) as well as for the year (6.3 million units).
- The XBox had 1.26 million in December and 4.6 million for the year.
- The Sony Playstation sold 0.8 million in December and 2.6 million during the year. The Sony console did see higher growth rates later in the year when the price was reduced.
Game software sales totaled $8.6 Billion, up 34% from 2006. Top games included Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Wii Play, Super Mario Galaxy and Guitar Hero III.
