Celebrate Earth Day at the Green Apple Festival [The New York City Traveler]

Translate Into:

For the third consecutive year, New York will be part of the Green Apple Festival to celebrate Earth Day 2008.  Festivities will include live entertainment, planting and mulching activities for families, tree care and composting demonstrations, arts & crafts with recycled materials, tree tours, face painting, a green mural project, Greenmarket vendors, and more!

The green mural project, peaceXpiece, is your opportunity to participate in the largest and longest “eco-mural.”  Conceptualized by artist Paul Kostabi, visitors are invited to stop by the Central Park Bandshell on Saturday or Sunday to pick up a free blank canvas and supplies to paint their vision.  Return the completed canvas by the 20th and it will be part of the 500′ eco-mural that will be on display in New York in the summer of 2008.

On Sunday, April 20th, the main Earth Day event takes place at Rumsey Field in Central Park.  The free live entertainment will include:

  • Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder
  • Bacon Brothers
  • Big Head Todd and the Monsters
  • Vusi Mahlasela
  • Vienna Teng

Earth Day 2008 has events in many major cities, including Washington D.C., Miami, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Bring your family, blanket, and picnic basket to enjoy the Earth Day 2008 festivities!
