I’d say even before voting ends for the New Seven Wonders of Nature, Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park in Sulu, Philippines is a sure winner as one of nature’s best.
Tubbataha Reef is home to some of the most beautiful corals in the world and over one thousand species of marine life, including many that are endangered. The reef is composed on two atolls, one to the south and the opposite to the north. Only two small islet protruding from the water hint at the richness underneath the sea.
As the Philippines’ only National Marine Park, Tubbataha is protected as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, preserved for generations to come. A team of rangers are stationed on the reef year-round and only certified divers are allowed to visit from March until June.
