Why Getting Organized Will Help You Land a Job

Translate Into:

Human resources experts agree that if you are serious about finding a job, you must treat the process like a job itself. This will require discipline, hard work, steadfastness and organization. Job seekers who do not seek out employment in this manner will often end up frustrated, discouraged and likely without a job. Below, we will discuss some ways to quickly organize your job search so that you increase your chances of landing employment.

Create a List of Industries That You Are Interested In: Before you begin, it is important to have some idea of the type of job that you want and what industries interest you. This will help when it comes time to search. It will also increase the chance that you will be able to find a job that gets you excited about getting up and going to work every morning. While there will definitely be some times when you have to compromise on what type of job you take in order to pay the bills (especially now), writing a list of the types of jobs that you want will definitely help you focus your search.

Keep Track of Your Searches: Write down every website that you submit your resume may to. If you do not, it will be very easy to forget. You may miss out on some hot leads if you visit a job board once, submit your resume and never come back. Always be sure to follow up and see what new jobs have been added.

It is important to keep track of the jobs and the companies that you have applied to. You don’t want to get a call from a human resource officer and have no idea of what job she is calling you about. Therefore, take notes of when you submitted your resume, keep a copy of your cover letter and write down the name of the companies that you have submitted job applications to.

Take Notes On All Interviews: It is a good idea to take notes on all phone and actual interviews. This will help you during the interview process and will give you some idea of what the company is looking for.

Getting organized is an important part of the job seeking process. Creating and keeping a list of job industries that get you excited is a vital part of focusing the process. Keeping track of where you submit your resumes to and to what companies is also a good idea. You will want to be prepared when recruiters give you a call. You will also want to be sure that you are one of the first people to spot new job leads. Lastly, take and keep notes on all your interviews. This will give you some insight into what a company is looking for and can also be a great study resource for future job interviews.
