‘America’s Next Top Model’ Recap
Episode 10.12 “Ready for My Close-up”

Where do I begin? OK, the last girl to go home on America’s Next Top Model was dark haired beauty Katarzyna. This was a suprise in that Kat really had a great look, but she didn’t have the personality to match. I think when we’re this far in to the competition, personality plays a huge role. After all, this is how a model becomes a supermodel.
Whitney accompanied Kat in the bottom two in last week’s episode, but she wasn’t the one sent packing. This week she feels she has to prove something to herself, the other contestants, and especially the judges. The fact that she has come so far makes her feel as if the competition and America are both ready for a plus size supermodel.
The other girls don’t understand why Dominique is still in the house. This, of course, could never deter Dominique, who is constantly in her own world. I think she has some talent, but it’s her overzealous confidence that is a major turnoff. At this point, I think the audience is nearly rooting for her to be dismissed by Tyra.
The girls head over to a park where they meet with Top Model judge Paulina Porzikova and fashion photographer Francesco Licata. Licata has shot for Marie Claire, Elle, and Cosmo, and will the the girls a tutorial on working with a camera. The challenge is to see who can pick up what goes on behind the camera (after all, this is just as important as what goes on in front). The editor of Seventeen magazine will watch the girls photograph Paulina, and both will decide who is the winner of the challenge.
Fatima is the first up. She has great direction and a clear vision of what she wants Paulina to do, which I imagine makes it easy on a model. Dominique isn’t quite as successful, when she offers very vague direction for Paulina. Whitney is professional, and also knows how to make a model feel comfortable, utilizing the light. Anya is…well, Anya. As adorable and free as her personality is, she’s dragging Paulina all around without much direction.

Fatima is named the winner of the challenge, and her prize is an extra 50 frames at the following day’s photoshoot. Whoa! Now that’s something that is crucial to win, especially this late in the competition. This could really be a make-or-break for Fatima’s photographs.
That night at the house, Dominique criticizes Fatima’s walk, and goes on and on about believing things until they become reality. She channels The Secret, and forces us along for the ride.
