MacRumors is reporting Apple has filed a new patent, not for the iPhone but for certain techniques to provide input to applications that are interactive as well as those that are multitasking.
The patent focus on controlling background processes without the need to leave your current window (application). As MacRumors puts it, “For the iPhone/iPod touch, the patent is similar to the home button double-click functionality, but the touch screen would be utilized.”
The reason the patent matters is because it can be applied to portable devices (such as the iPhone).
The patent was originally filed with the Patent Office in September 2006. Just another hint of Apple not only improving their current touchscreen technology, but we may see new implementations of the touchscreen to come (”MacTouch”).
