We all know how fun the holidays can be but for many holidays can be a real chore and extremely stressful. Mix all that up with a baby’s first holiday and you’ve got yourself a real handful. But if you take things in stride and make the baby feel good about it and not stressed everything else SHOULD fall into place.
- Don’t go all out on the baby’s first holiday. While you may remember it, they baby won’t except for pictures. They aren’t going to remember the house decked out in every Christmas light you can hang, fake snow on the floor, glitter in the house or those beautifully decorated gingerbread houses and chocolate chip cookies you made a ton of. They probably won’t even eat them and if they do only a couple.
- When it comes to opening gifts remember most babies like boxes. I’m not saying get your baby a box but don’t be disappointed when he/she opens it and doesn’t seem impressed with the gift and only wants to sit in the box.
- Pictures can be both a great thing and a bad. Your baby is probably not going to sit around and let you take an hour worth of photos. If you take him/her to a professional chances are there will be tears, tears from you, the baby and the staff.
- Transportation isn’t always easy. If you are planning a trip by plane remember ears pop. Try getting your baby to sleep right before the plane ride, this normally helps with the ears. If you are going by car plan on making stops every time you fill up for gas, if not before. He/she will want lots of loving, food and diaper changing.
- Overexposure for some can be too much for them to handle. While a child may seem okay when visitors come over it might be a different story when they see 20 people at one time in the house, especially if they can’t recognize all the faces. Be prepared to be holding him/her a lot while the guests are there.
