想要与Google竞争绝非易事。多少人尝试过，然而失败了。其实，与这位搜索引擎巨头竞争不是没有可能的，原因在于这些竞争者们没有意识到对手的弱点。而他们的竞争对手google早在1997年就意识到了其他搜索引擎商们的弱项，并加以利用，从而成就了霸主地位，而且保持至今。
尽管在搜索结果质量方面,要与google一较高下是不太可能了，不过在其他方面google还是有弱点可寻的。例如: google 一直遭人诟病的隐私政策,无论是邮件服务还是为引擎保留个人数据政策。此外，google与中国政府的合作以及搜索结果的过滤也引起了一些议论。
显然，搜索结果的过滤是一件更为敏感而又缺乏灵活性的事情。然而我们可以看到，其他搜索引擎已经注意到google在隐私问题上的困境，而且他们利用了这一点。ask.com网站前一段日子宣称他们研发了一项新的数据保留制度，在这个网站搜索的结果不再与ip地址挂钩(google 为了他们的研究调查而将你的搜索与你的ip地址联系在一起），在不远的将来，他们将会发布一个名为“AskEraserproduct 的新产品 。
而微软也适时调在了更有利的一方，宣称在他们自己的搜索引擎里也将增加保护隐私这一项目。
AskEraser这一软件可以把在Ask.com 这个网站上搜索过的历史记录彻底的清除，而这可以缓解那些注重隐私的人和消费者保护团体对google多年的担心。
对所有用户来说，将用户数据匿名可以增加搜索引擎的产品，并且这些个人信息如何被使用对我们是开放透明的。然而我们也考虑到那些对于保护他们隐私的新兴工具感兴趣的人们，他们能在ask.com得到这种掌控。
ask.com和微软的行动显示了google并非不可战胜的。你只要发现正确的道路继而开发利用，你就可以找到属于自己的天地。
