I’ve been driving my GM AVEO for two years now. It’s a decent car to me, but looks bad in the eyes of insurance sales agents. It’s bought cheap, so they aren’t able to milk me for any pricy premium. But money is money. It does talk. So around this time every year, my three thousand yuan or so is always up for grabs.

For about a week, I was being pestered by calls from too many insurance companies. The majority of them aren’t heard of before. Well, I’m pretty old school for insurance. When it comes to the insurance for my car, I only run those big names in my mind. So once I found out what these calls were all about, I would often mumble some words impatiently and closed my cell dead on them. Or I would give them my wife’s number at most because I always trust her patience and smarts in landing the best deal for everything.

But what nags me is the discovery that there is actually so much of me, my car and family those second-rate companies know. The girls at the other end of the line could just rap out my name, my car model and when our previous insurance expires. Of course, they got to know my cell number at first. This is infuriating! It looks like my previous car purchase and insurane info have been leaked to them long before I know it.

We are wise people and can do a little math. At last, we cut the deal with Ping An, one of the country’s major league insurers. The thing is, they also got a salesperson call me up, and I let him meet my wife to discuss the deal. We took the deal because the one-year presium is slightly lower and there are a couple of free side dishes included, namely, a 150 yuan prepaid gas card as well as a free biennial car safety checkup with the local PSB.

Damn, I just got another call from China Life Insurance! They are too late for me!
