Jeffo is mighty pissed at New York State 'cos if they have their way he might find it tougher to make his next ten fucking billion. That's why Amazon filed a lawsuit on Friday in Manhattan challenging New York state's new law forcing it and other online retailers to collect sales tax on shipments to state residents. The new law, expected to raise about $50 billion, (shit that's nearly what Bill Gates makes in a fucking month) is based on a strange definition of what constitutes a presence in the state: It includes any Web site based in New York that earns a referral fee for sending customers to an online retailer. The problem is, Amazon has hundreds of thousands of affiliates - from big publishers to tiny blogs - that feature links to its products. If even one of those affiliates is in New York state, the law says Amazon must collect sales tax on everything sold in the state, even if it isn't sold through the affiliate. Fuck, it's not just the money, can you imagine the hassle tracking all those pennies? If I were Jeffo, I'd take my billions and ride off into the sunset on my Segway!
.
If I had his money, I'd grin like a churl all the time, too!
