While I use various word processors for various types of task, I spend a great deal of time each day in Microsoft Word. That’s primarily true because so many of my colleagues use it. As is true for any software application that you use all day long, picking up some tips on how to work more efficiently can go a long way. I previously posted a series of writerly tips for Word, and readers had many additions to the list. In this post, I’ll concentrate on keystroke tips that can save you lots of time and hassle.
Ctrl+Shift+>: Increases font size every time you repeat the combination.
Ctrl+Shift+<: Decreases font size every time you repeat the combination.
Shift+F3: Lets you toggle a selected area of text from all caps to all lower case, and vice-versa.
Ctrl+Shift+k: Toggles selected words from small caps to lower case, and vice-versa.
Ctrl+Del: Deletes the word just to the right of your cursor (no selecting needed).
Ctrl+Backspace: Deletes the word just to the left of your cursor.
Ctrl+Shift+c: Copies formatting and styles.
Ctrl+Shift+v: Pastes formatting and styles.
Shift+F5: After opening a Word document you were editing before, this will take you back to the spot you left off at.
Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+2: Toggles from single spacing to double spacing.
Shift-Alt+(up and down arrows): Lets you move selected paragraphs around in a document.
