For most of us, internet access while traveling is a necessity, not a luxury.
I know that I am incredibly frustrated when I’m in a hotel room that has a spotty connection, and I’m simply amazed at the occasional hotel that offers no in-room access at all. It’s always best when it’s free, of course, but the absolute worst is having to pay for it and then getting a weak connection or one that is continually interrupted.
A recent Forbes survey listed the top wired cities in America. If you’re traveling to one of these cities, you most likely won’t have to worry about your internet access.
Here’s the top ten list (with their rankings from last year in parenthesis):
- Atlanta Georgia (1)
- Seattle, Washington (3)
- Raleigh, North Carolina (5)
- San Francisco, California (6)
- TIE: Baltimore, Maryland (16) & Orlando, Florida (2)

- Charlotte, North Carolina (10)
- Chicago, Illinois (17)
- New York City, New York (12)
- Portland, Oregon (15)
