Refuse is no longer the main talking point in Naples. Attention has moved on to
political refuse, which is far more toxic and is not recyclable.
Incinerators are hazardous to our health and to our pockets. We subsidise them by means of a levy on our
ENEL utility bills, called the
CIP6 and amounting to around 7%. Without this subsidy, they would all be shut down. This contribution is being taken away from the renewable energy sources, for which the levy was originally intended. It has been proven that incinerators waste energy instead of generating it, and they only manage to survive thanks to the tax on electric power.
In order to change things, we will have to get to the point of
personally reducing our utility bills until such time as the CIP6 is allocated to wind power and solar power, as occurs in the rest of Europe. I am seriously considering doing this.
Instructions will be posted on this blog.
Stay tuned.
