Like Michael Arrington, I now ban all Associated Press stories from all my blogs. That includes Tech Side Up, Inside Online Video, and The Mike Abundo Effect. I have absolutely no tolerance for copyright trolls who want to control their content beyond the extent allowed by law. Their right to protect their content ends where your right to free speech begins.
This ban extends beyond my blogs. AP stories are now banned from my Twitter stream, my Facebook updates, my YouTube subscriptions, my everyday conversations — any place where I can direct your attention to things. They’re not getting a single clickthrough from my readers, and they’re not getting a single drop of my Google juice.
AP can’t have their cake and eat it too. They can’t have control and attention at the same time. If they choose to have all their control, then they will have none of our attention. In the attention economy, choosing control over attention is suicide.
And I’m more than happy to help a dirty copyright troll commit suicide.
