Peter Coyote (Dennis Ryland of The 4400) hosted a special PBS TV show called The Brain Fitness Program. I came upon the show by accident, but after seeing it, I realized that the basic tenets of the program are obviously something he really believes in. It’s no wonder he chose to be part of The 4400.
The show itself is like an infomercial in my opinion, but has some very interesting comments from Peter and others. The brain program is actually computer software you’d buy separately.
The ideas themselves are important, and a good reminder that we should learn new things everyday. Our parents would tell us that, but when you hear it from neuroscientists, and see the videos of brain activity while a person is solving a math problem, it takes on a whole new meaning. The trailer for the series is here.
I was happy to get Brain Age 2, a Nintendo DS game for Christmas, and it does the job nicely. When I started out, my “brain age” was uh….well never mind. You can see how fun it is, in this short video on Brain Age 2. I think having Peter host the show was a perfect move! I’d have gone a step further and had Jeffrey Combs there too.
