Harvard Study Finds Women who Eat Fish and Breastfeed Longer Have Healthier Babies
While recommendations for consuming fish during pregnancy had tapered off due to high levels of mercury, studies have repeatedly found fish provides an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids which are vital to infant brain development.  A new study by Harvard Medical School found that moderate consumption of low-mercury fish during pregnancy resulted in increased motor and cognitive skills.  The post explains that breastfeeding was also found to be independently beneficial and that longer breastfeeding duration increased infant’s skills similar to the consumption of fish.  The analysis was performed by parental questionnaires in which mothers indicated developmental milestones as well as dietary regime at 6 and 18 months.
