This episode we have a member of the NYPD, Nikki, who is on the rocks with her husband. I guess this means they’re about to divorce over Nikki’s bad fashion? A bit sad. The husband says that this makeover will allow Nikkie to find herself as a woman again. The accomplices are her husband Josh, Nikki’s good friend Charles, and celebrity stylist Claire Devereux. Claire has worked with Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell and has a fierce Irish accent. Loves it.
Nikkie tells Finola that she’s in desperate need of a makeover, but is still surprised that her husband nominated her for such a show. Nikki lives in hoodies and pullover sweatshirts, and owns one black dress that she has worn to special events for the passed five years. At the beginning of the relationship, Nikki wore stylish clothes and looked after herself. Years later, her workload as a full-time officer has interfered with her relationship with her husband and leaves little time for their marriage.
The accomplices look through Nikki’s wardrobe and find a lot wrong. I don’t know what’s so wrong with fleece sweatshirts and pajama pants…if you’re wearing them at home. I’m all for a girl wearing her man’s shirt, but to live in his sweatshirts from college is a little insane. Nikki claims she doesn’t have anyone left to impress because she is married. Her husband feels neglected and alone, and says that in the course of six years, they’ve forgotten why they fell in love and there’s a lot to repair. Nikki seems convinced that this has nothing to do with her clothing, and only has to do with the relationship.
Josh wants Nikki to ditch his old sweatshirts, her NYPD t-shirts, and pajama pants. The accomplices throw out all of her t-shirts, pants, and tower of flip-flops. Claire goes nuts over Nikki’s one pair of jeans, which are low rise hip huggers that have no pockets and a hideous pale wash.
Finola goes over the looks: Arresting Style, Sexy Siren, and the Wildcard. Arresting Style will be the casual chic look, while Sexy Siren will work for evening or a night out with Nikki’s husband and a wildcard which is just a look the accomplice thinks would suit Nikki.
Finola and Nikki sit down to watch the video of accomplices going out and looking around for her outfits. Nikki’s husband chooses ribbons, and other feminine pieces that make Nikki cringe. Her best friend Charles suggests pale pink, a sheath dress, and a bright red trench. Almost everyone he suggests makes Nikki scream. Claire chooses a cowl neck blouse, a cropped plaid jacket, and a bright prairie skirt. The stylist is a little obnoxious, even for my taste, and I’m one for ribbons and bows and all of that good girlie stuff.
Collection one has lots of necklaces (which I can’t really see on Nikki), heels, and this cap sleeved, corset-inspired blouse which Nikki surprisingly liked. For hair and makeup, the look is soft with toussled hair in a honey blond color. Collection two has skinny jeans, lots of accessories and two dresses that Nikki actually likes. Progress is being made! The biggest shock is that collection two wants Nikki’s hair cut like Posh Spice. Talk about drastic. Collection three isn’t tickling Nikki’s fancy either. There’s a little too much femininity for Nikki, and she isn’t digging the charcoal eye the accomplice is suggesting either. Nikki will choose the looks after she tries on each collection, and has to select one in its entirety, from accessories to makeup to hair color and cut.
Collection one belongs to Josh. Nikki looks decent in the outfits, but they aren’t very her. Collection two belongs to Clair, and I think it’s a little more low key, which is right up Nikki’s alley. Nikki hits the nail on the head when she matches up every collection with the accomplices correctly. Collection three (which belongs to Charles) seems to look the best on Nikki, and she also seems to like the majority of the outfits the most.
Next stop is B2V, a salon in West Hollywood. Nikki’s hair is cut into layers to create serious volume. The makeup artist gives her brows a quick makeover, and applies soft shades of beige and brown to create a cleaner, better Nikki that still looks like her.
Nikkie ended up going with the third collection, which was Charles. The soft blond hair in the shorter cut looks amazing on Nikki, and the teal bustier dress paired with tons of silver makes her look like a zillion bucks! Josh and Nikki both seemed moved and somewhat repaired by the makeover. The next step is to start putting their relationship first, and Nikki finally agrees with that. And who wouldn’t when you look like a movie star?
