Coming, as predicted, on the heels of the Director’s Guild of America’s deal with the AMPTP, the Writer’s Guild of America is heading back to the negotiating table. Cinema Blend has a few quotes on the topic, including one from a top Producer predicting the Writer’s strike to end within 2 weeks of negotiations and that they’ll follow the deal blueprint the DGA used.
Negotiations between the WGA and the AMPTP slammed to a halt back on December 7th, when the AMPTP accused the WGA of wanting to be on strike, refusing to deal, and acting like a bunch of clowns. The WGA stayed away from the table after that, stating a refusal to accept any offer below what they’re were asking for. See this related story from December.
A deal reached by February 1st could bring most productions back to shooting life in two to four weeks, with post-production companies waiting another two or so weeks after that. Hollywood could resume wasting money on sequels and remakes at their previous pace by Mid-March. Stay tuned for more updates.
