Shlumpadinka. I can’t say it without laughing. It sounds like some bizarre fairytale character. Oprah’s website boasts that the word isn’t in Webster’s dictionary…yet. Yet?!
The idea of the show was to makeover an entire neighborhood of shlumpadinkas, starting with their wardrobe. A lot of people seem to think that since a sweatshirt and sweatpants don’t take much thought, looking half-way dressed much take A LOT of thought. Not so. Stylist Lloyd Boston showed the women how to incorporate easy pieces that require little thought when worn. Investing in a few key things like a well-fitted trench, clean slacks, good jeans, and shirts with a little stretch allow you to look dressed, but still feel comfortable. Lloyd took the women to all of the places they would normally shop: Old Navy, JC Penney, Sears, etc. to show them that yes, style DOES exist in Middle America, it’s just a matter of knowing how to wear it!
Check out one of the before and afters:

Does the before really have to look so depressed? Those jeans are pretty depressing though…

Tomorrow I’ll cover celebrity hairstylist, Ken Paves’ tips for frump-free hair. Make that easy to maintain frump-free hair!
