Discovery/STS 124: Día 10

Con las pruebas finales del brazo robot del laboratorio Kibō de la Agencia Japonesa de Exploración Aeroespacial y la apertura de la esclusa que comunica con su módulo logístico los astronautas Akihiko Hoshide y Karen Nyberg daban por completados los objetivos principales de la misión STS-124 de la NASA, que eran la instalación del módulo presurizado del laboratorio, su componente principal, y el acoplamiento con este del citado módulo logístico que había sido puesto en órbita por el Endeavour durante la misión STS-123.

Mientras Hoshide y Nyberg terminaban con sus tareas Mark Kelly y Mike Fossum reemplazaron unos cargadores de baterías en la escotilla Quest de la Estación Espacial Internacional, mientras que el resto de los tripulantes seguían transfiriendo equipos y suministros entre ambas naves, cuya separación está prevista para hoy.

Garrett Reisman y Greg Chamitoff dedicaron también parte de su tiempo a que el primero terminara de poner al corriente al segundo sobre lo que supone vivir y trabajar en la ISS, ya que mientras Reisman vuelve a tierra en el Discovery Chamitoff se queda a bordo de la Estación hasta noviembre de este año.

Este último día de trabajo conjunto comenzó al son de The Spirit of Aggieland, interpretada por la Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band y dedicada a Mike Fossum.
